Initial Testing and Analysis
We begin by conducting a quantitative electroencephalogram (q-EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG). These tests measure brain wave frequencies, heart rate, and brain-heart coherence.
Once complete, our clinical and scientific teams will review the data to determine your current brain activity, and identify areas of the brain that may not be performing in tandem with the rest of your brain.
We then incorporate a patented approach with the neurophysiological data to develop a customized treatment plan that “guides” your treatment through its therapy process.
What is an EEG?
The qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) sometimes referred to as “brain mapping” is a tool used along with an EKG (electrocardiogram) to determine the electrical activity in multiple areas of the brain to identify areas that may be too active, or not active enough.
Acknowledging each brain is different, and this precise tool allows us to identify brain areas with electrical dysfunction related to either traumatic injury or neurodegenerative process, thereby providing evidence of electrical abnormalities and network dysfunctions.
Because every EEG is completely unique to each person, this allows us to tailor our treatment approach specifically for you to ensure the best possible results.
Brain activity varies greatly from individual to individual. Those with non-optimum neurological conditions may have significant EEG rhythm variations which may result in excessive or reduced brain metabolism.
Is MeRT Treatment Right for You?
While MeRT therapy has been around for many years, you may just be hearing about it, and considering it for yourself or your child. We understand that this may seem like a complicated process so we are here to help you through it.
Your first step would be a no-obligation phone consultation with our New Patient Coordinator. Here you can discuss your symptoms and history, ask all the questions you want, and have her explain the protocols, fees, and details of Treatment.
When you are ready for the next step, we will set up an appointment for your qEEG (a simple, painless, and non-invasive brain scan). Through the use of a quantitative qEEG we are able to see EXACTLY what is going on in YOUR brain and individualize treatment for you, based on your exact needs. Once your qEEG is completed, our team of experienced doctors and scientists will analyze your results to determine if you may benefit from treatment and, if so, will develop an exact treatment protocol designed to optimize your brain, or that of your child.
The next step in this easy process will be to have a one-on-one consultation with our R.N., Kate Ryan, followed by a short appointment with our Clinical Director. These appointments with the clinicians can be done virtually from the comfort of your own home. Here you will discuss your symptoms, treatment protocols, answer any additional questions that you may have, and together determine if you (or your child) are a candidate for treatment.
If you and your clinician then decide to move forward with the next step, the Assessment Period, we will perform a short period of treatment, followed by a new EEG to see if you are responding to the treatment. This is determined by performing a new EEG which we will compare to the initial one done before treatment started, as well as symptom improvements.
Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance, nor file it on your behalf. However, we can provide you with CPT codes and a billing breakdown that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement for conditions that have been FDA-approved such as Major Depressive Disorder and OCD. On occasion, individuals have been successful in receiving reimbursement for EEGs and clinical evaluations, and possibly other elements for treatment, depending on the individual’s coverage.
Medicare does not reimburse any of the treatment costs.
For conditions other than Major Depressive Disorder and OCD, because treatment is considered “off-label,” insurance rarely reimburses any of the costs associated with treatment.
INTERESTED BUT NOT SURE?
Talk with our New Patient Coordinator
We understand what it is like to have children or family members who are affected by brain disorders, or to be affected yourself. You may feel frustrated and isolated and may have lost hope that there is any relief in sight. MeRT is a treatment protocol that has helped patients restore their brain function, reclaim their lives, and feel passionate about living again. We understand what you are going through, and our goal is to help guide you through the process so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not MeRT is the right treatment for you or your child.
Many of our clinicians and technicians have gone through MeRT treatment protocols themselves and have realized firsthand what the treatment has done for them, and as a result, are passionate about helping others to heal too.
Our New Patient Coordinator is available to answer any questions that you may have about how MeRT can help you specifically. She’ll take the time to listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and put your mind at ease.
